In South Facing II, I explore the mid-century identity of the Dulwich Estate, influenced by the minimalist tones of Danish masters. The composition is defined by a rigid architectural grid, where the heavy rhythm of black tiles and white window frames dominates. Yet, the true subject is the midday sun, which turns venetian blinds into abstract patterns of light and shadow.
At the center, a solitary figure is caught in a moment of quiet witness, adjusting to the glare of the outside world. I focused on the friction between weathered brick and glossy tiling to highlight the intersection of routine and solitude. It captures how these modern spaces can feel like a light-filled sanctuary and a site of profound isolation all at once.
